Talent Care in the spirit of Kodály. Integrated art education in the 21st century

 

Description: The course wishes to realizes the thoughts of Kodály, which states that "....by learning music, we don't learning music only. Singing sets you free, encourages you, contentrates, improves your health and mood, brings yourself to do more, it help you get used to paying attention and developing discipline...". During the course of various presentations the lecturers will introduce the point and underlying principles of the integrated art education; and its psychological and human biological background. Possibilities and specifics regarding age, subject, education level and multi-cultural education will be introduced through lectures, interactive workshops and introductory lectures. The methods and results of art education concerning people with disabilities can be experienced in the form of visiting other lesson/ workshops.

 

The course intends to expand knowledge and draw awareness to the rich know-how of arts education: it introduces the pedagogical work of the well-functioning, exceptional, but not-well known educator groups to the other educators and teachers. Therefore, the course intends to help and support the participants in their work of renewing public education.

 

Method and frequency of evaluation, conditions of obtaining a certificate

In order to obtain a certificate, participants must prepare a document on how they plan to adapt and use the things they learnt during the course. The document must be submitted before the deadline.

 

Requirements regarding the contents of the document: Participants know and understand the underlying principles of art education based on the customs of Kodály (frequency, technicalities, gradualism, program that was tried out and works efficiently in practice). Furthermore, participants should know the areas of using integrated art pedagogy (according to ages from kindergarten to the end of secondary school, children with privileged and underprivileged sociocultural backgrounds, children with and without disabilities). They should also be able to integrate the underlying principles into their own or their institutions' educational program.

 

Method of the evaluation: Upon competition of the course participants have 3 weeks to prepare an "adaptation plan" ‒ 20.000 characters maximum ‒, in which they describe how they can integrate their newly gained knowledge into their institution, area of expertise, pedagogical methods (language learning, teaching music-singing, informatics, etc.) Based on the "adaptation plan" we wish to assess how the participants acquired the possibilities of the complex art education, the introduced methods; and whether they are able to demonstrate at least two of these elements in the pedagogy program of their own institution.

 

Suggested professions: Kindergarten teacher, Primary school teacher, Music teacher, Special education teacher, Dormitory teacher, People working in the field of socio pedagogy

Suggested functions (activities): Head of institution, deputy head of institution, teacher in support of the student government, Person responsible for child protection, Work community leader, Form-master, Leisure organizer, Head teacher, pre-school coach, mentor teacher

 

Cost: 300 EUR. Other expenses: Meals, travel expenses, accommodation. The course is held in the Music Department of ELTE University: 4/F Múzeum krt. ("Trefort Garden") Budapest.
