In 1985, still before graduating in the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music as a composer and music theory teacher, he began working in the ELTE University. In the past decades he taught music theory, organology, score reading and continuo among others and meanwhile he gained his doctoral and habilitation degree. Since 2019 he has been the director of the Institute of Arts Communication and Music.
Besides his activity as a professor of music theory prof. Bodnár writes publications and gives conference-lectures regularly in Hungary and abroad. He is an expert on education, school-books for classroom music teaching and, as a piano accompanist of choirs, a performer of concerts and CD-recordings as well. Currently he is the president of the Committee on Arts Communication at the Hungarian Rector's Conference and a member of the advisory board of Parlando music pedagogy review.
